Recently we were adding some confetti toppings to our social media knowledge cake, and we ran across an article written by Social Report stating that the "former digital director for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Sreenath Sreenivasan, explained in an interview with the New York Times that for the Museum, social media "isn’t just a marketing channel, it’s a listening and conversational channel as well.”".
Often times, we tend to overlook this fact. We worry so much about getting fans, followers and likes, we forget the most important piece of non-profit marketing -- we need to engage and listen to others if we want them to engage and listen in return. Not to mention, the amazing pool of knowledge each organization has gathered and could share if we took the time to get personal.
So this week - try to engage and listen! See where that takes you. It may lead to an individual deciding to donate time or funds to your non-profit because they better understand your goal. Or maybe, it will lead to joining forces with other groups with similar causes. What are you waiting for?

IS YOUR PROJECT ELIGIBLE?
Projects eligible for Project We Kan! are non-profit efforts that will strengthen or sustain a Kansas community. Projects to fund salaries, annual events, books, or projects that promote a particular religious or political point of view are not eligible.

DEFINITION OF NON-PROFIT
For Project We Kan! a non-profit project is one that qualifies as a nonprofit organization with the IRS and/or State of Kansas or is a community project with a designated fund in a community foundation or at the bank.
DEFINITION OF COMMUNITY
A community can be a rural town, an urban neighborhood, or a niche community. Some examples of a niche community could be a group of musicians or Master Gardeners across the state. There is no population limit.
MOST DESIRABLE PROJECTS
We're looking for projects that strengthen a community with an infusion of energy, creativity, and engagement. Project We Kan! projects should demonstrate forward-movement for your community in the categories of Architecture, Art, Commerce, Cuisine, Customs, Geography, History, or People.
